By automating the switch between 2D and 3D modes, the P-3D Mover eliminates manual filter handling, ensures accurate and repeatable positioning, and saves projection staff time in cinemas programming mixed 2D and 3D content.

What Is the P-3D Mover and How Does It Work?

The P-3D Mover is a motorised device that places RealD 3D units into 3D position, directly in front of the lens, and returns them to 2D position, away from the lens. This automation removes the need for staff to manually reposition the 3D polarisation unit between screenings, a task that traditionally required physical access to the projector between shows.

The system can be triggered three ways: automatically by the cinema server through scheduled playlists, remotely via Ethernet through a web browser, or manually using push buttons located on the P-3D Mover chassis itself. The pushbutton controls provide 2D position, 3D position, and reset position functions for direct local operation. A gear motor encoder ensures the unit reaches accurate and repeatable 3D and 2D positions every time, maintaining consistent image quality across all presentations.

Simple Installation and Manual Operation

The P-3D Mover is designed for straightforward installation, working coupled to the XL-Core guides. It is compatible with RealD XL and XLW 3D systems and mechanically compatible with all DCI projectors and pedestals, making it suitable for a wide range of cinema installations.

When manual operation is required, the P-3D Mover can be quickly released from the XL-Core guides without the need for any tools, allowing technical staff to operate it by hand for maintenance or testing. This tool-free release simplifies servicing whilst maintaining the precision of automated positioning during normal operation.

Web Interface for Monitoring and Control

The P-3D Mover includes a web-based administration interface accessible over the network. The Motor control page provides direct commands for 2D and 3D positioning, forward and backward movement, fine adjustment, and stop functions, along with the ability to set and store the precise 2D and 3D positions. The interface displays current position values, device up-time, serial number, and firmware version for straightforward monitoring.

A separate Configuration page manages the device's network settings, including MAC address, host name, IP address, DHCP options, gateway, and TCP port, along with NTP time synchronisation settings. This networked control allows the P-3D Mover to integrate into cinema management systems and be operated remotely across a projection estate.

Technical Characteristics

The P-3D Mover offers 3D system compatibility with RealD XL and XLW units and mechanical compatibility with all DCI projectors and pedestals. Triggering options include DCI servers, web browser, or local pushbuttons, with pushbutton controls for 2D position, 3D position, and reset position.

The device uses a 1.7 Nm motor with a leadscrew mechanical actuator, running on 220V AC with a power consumption of 60W. Connectivity is via RJ-45 Ethernet. The unit weighs 16.7 kg with dimensions of 853 mm x 322 mm x 148.5 mm.
