What Is NextAlert and How Does It Work?

NextAlert continuously monitors DCI projectors and servers across your cinema estate, detecting developing issues and sending instant alerts to designated staff via email or Telegram messaging. Rather than waiting for equipment to fail during a paid screening, operators receive early warnings with practical suggestions, enabling technical teams to address problems proactively during non-show hours.

The system operates without requiring a Theatre Management System, making it accessible to venues of any size, including independent cinemas and circuits using third-party software. Setup is straightforward: cinemas connect to the CinemaNext Network, and Telegram integration activates through a simple QR code scan of the NextAlert bot.

NextAlert's core function is proactive notification. When the system detects an anomaly in a connected projector or server, it dispatches an immediate alert to staff phones, accompanied by suggested actions to prevent the issue escalating. Operators can tailor their alert experience through severity filters, choosing to receive either severe alerts only (critical issues requiring urgent attention) or all alerts (comprehensive monitoring including minor anomalies). Severe Projector Alerts by Manufacturer

NextAlert provides manufacturer-specific monitoring tailored to the diagnostic messages of each projector brand.

For Barco projectors, the system flags Maintenance Type A/B requirements, RTC synchronisation issues with the NTP server, projectors running extended periods in light-ON mode, and low media block battery conditions. For NEC projectors, NextAlert reports exhausted fan life, projector filter replacement requirements, lamp life alerts and exhaustion warnings, and lamp strike issues. For Christie projectors, the system monitors fan performance, alerting operators to low-speed detection before cooling problems develop.

Severe Server Alerts

NextAlert monitors digital cinema servers for the conditions most likely to interrupt playback. Server alerts include degraded RAID arrays, available storage falling below 150GB, hard disk usage exceeding 80%, and damaged hard disk sectors above 500 (on Dolby systems). The system also flags RTC low battery conditions on IMBs and IMSs, fan failures on Doremi units, ICMP and ICMP-X units requiring RTC reset, and ICMP synchronisation failures with the NTP server. These early warnings allow technical staff to address storage and hardware issues before they compromise content playback.

Comprehensive Alerts for Projectors and Servers

Beyond severe alerts, NextAlert's full monitoring mode captures a wide range of operational anomalies. Examples include failed SMS notification delivery, unexpected playback behaviour (such as no image or light off while playing), unreachable NTP servers, macro execution failures, 3D module failures, lens zoom position issues, airflow problems, fan speed irregularities, and media player input and playback errors. This depth of coverage gives technical teams complete visibility into equipment health across the entire cinema.

Lamp and Laser Life Reporting

NextAlert delivers real-time lamp and laser life reports on a per-site basis. Operators select a site and receive current lamp or laser usage data compared against expected lifespan, enabling accurate maintenance planning and budgeting for light source replacement. A single click generates detailed lamp life reports, whilst comprehensive monthly reports arrive automatically in Excel format for management analysis and record-keeping.

Requirements and Setup

NextAlert requires cinemas to be connected to the CinemaNext Network, with no Theatre Management System necessary for operation. Telegram integration uses the NextAlert bot, activated via QR code for rapid setup. This simplified architecture allows operators to begin receiving alerts quickly without complex configuration or additional infrastructure investment.
